Fay Lawrence Dani Samuels - Discus competitor (Diana Teale descendant)

Dani is a talented track & field athlete (discus). "In 2009, at 21 years of age, Dani Samuels created history by becoming the youngest female to win a discus gold medal at the world championships. Samuels racked up a number of victories, including gold at the World University Games, before she [went] to Berlin, where she threw a new personal best throw of 65.44m, over two metres further than her previous best, to seal victory." (NSWIS web site). Her career highlights are: World Youth Champio… Continue

Jay O'Val Eliza Dyel by Julia Kable

I've finally got and finished reading my copy of Julia's book, Eliza Dyel and the Dyel Family: a chapter in the Kable Saga. It is a wonderful and well researched small volume and helps to clear up several mysteries surrounding her, her connection with the Kables, and her ultimate fate. This book is required reading for anyone descended from John and Eliza. Eliza has been so hard to track and it sounds as is Julia has put in a lot of hours and footwork getting all the info to put it together. I h… Continue

Paul Kable Boarding in Plymouth

Boarding Hulk Dunkirk in Plymouth I recently returned from a holiday in Europe and spent some weeks near Plymouth and decided to research where Henry and Susannah stepped from England and spent months aboard Dunkirk in1786/87. The initial clue came from the front page of “The return of Convicts confined onboard Dunkirk” part of which is Plate C 9 in Damned Rascals. Part of the heading reads “Dunkirk Hulk in the Harbour of Hamoze, Plymouth”. The Hamoaze is that part of the Tamar River west of St… Continue

Zillah Estelle (Kable) Campbell -- John "the Boxer". Length of the books list on main page

I hope everyone is aware of the ever increasing list of books on the main page that have some mention of our family.!! Jay continues to add to this I am sure as its seems longer to me every time I look. What a wonderful list it is and a great benefit to anyone trying to find any info on our family. Please take time to look over this never ending, continually growing list for all to see Thanks again to Jay for her wonderful efforts --but remember also everyone she is related to Henry and Susannah… Continue

Jay O'Val Henry's death notice & other bits

I have a few days off work so I went to Windsor Library yesterday - they have such lovely resources including an index to the early newspapers of the area. In the Hawkesbury Courier, on the 19th March 1846 is Henry's death notice. It's on page 2 if anyone is interested. The library holds the microfilm, and probably the State Library does too. No doubt those of you who have been researching for ages have already found this, but I suspect most of the people on here haven't. "Died On Monday lasContinue

Jay O'Val Redecoration

I actually want this on the front page so I'm redoing it here. This amazing photo I've used for the background is from Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gertrudk/329823498/ and was photographed by Gertrud K. The pic is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution- Noncommercial- Share Alike 2.0 Generic license, the details of which appear here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/deed.en . Personally, after looking through 12 pages on Flickr for that type of license and pics… Continue

Jay O'Val Numbers again

We now have visitors from 15 different countries, listed below. I'm not listing out all the cities for Oz, US or UK because there's too many. Some of the others are interesting, there was one where the country couldn't be picked up and one where the city couldn't be picked up. The city in Japan came up as a number! I'd be very interested to know who was checking us out in some of the more distant countries. That's the problem with these stats, they are just a big tease, and the people who visit… Continue

Jay O'Val Updates on requests for changes

I've passed a few issues on to Ning a while back. The labels for photos in the albums has got a warm response with another person pointing out that the labels don't show in a slideshow either and one of the Ning people saying thanks for the feedback and they'll pass it on. Sharing albums has been brought up quite a few time so I added my vote and suggested the albums should have a tick box so people can share or not as they choose. And being able to choose to be notified of all new forum post… Continue

Jay O'Val Rearranging and adding

Hello cousins. I've rearranged the front page a little, pushed forums up closer to the top and added more books mentioning Henry on the right hand side. I thought, seeing as forum posts are not one of the things we get email notifications for, it should make it easier to keep an eye on them if they are nearer the top of the page. Besides, it's just fun to play with the site! Continue

Jay O'Val More numbers

Some interesting figures. I've been keeping an eye on statistics for this site. I've only had the stats running since the 13th March. We don't get a huge amount of traffic as we would expect for a site with a very specialised subject area, but we have some overseas visitors! We have had 4 visitors from the US but they only visited an average of 3.25 pages and stayed an average of less than 2 minutes. We've had 1 visitor from the UK who viewed 17 pages and stayed for 33 minutes and we've had 3 v… Continue

Jay O'Val Some numbers

Of the people who have stated which child of Henry and Susannah's they are descended from we have 3 from George Esto, 3 from William Nathanial, 6 from Diana and 15 from John!! Lyn has stated she's not related and Janine is girlfriend to Greg and a couple I'm not sure which child they came from, but all in all that's pretty impressive! (and I didn't count myself twice, I counted myself in with George, figured the Johns didn't need an extra person!) I wonder what John would have thought of his des… Continue
