Hi folks,
As if it wasn't bizzare enough finding out about my hanged ancestor, and his son Henry Kable, but the weirdest of coincidences happened yesterday.

My mother-in-law left us with many old items when she died. Among them were two old stamp albums, which I decided to look at yesterday in the hope of either selling, or passing them on to someone who might appreciate them.
When I opened to the first page of one of them, the attached pictures of the three stamps left me flabbergasted. In fact my flabber had never been so gasted !!!!.

This gets weirder and weirder. Incidentally the album contains quite a lot of other Austrailian stamps.

What are the chances of finding them amongst the millions of stamps in the world which could have been in those albums.
With this type of coincidence about I certainly made sure I bought a lottery ticket today.

Hope you enjoy the pictures, and my tale.

Kindest regards. Dan

Welcome Daniel - I am a 7th gen Kable via Diana Teale.
Love the headstone and your story. Did you photograph the headstone or did you find it on the web? Can you transcribe the words for us? It would be good if they could be added to the description under the photo. Perhap you could upload the photo yourself then add the information as it comes to hand. Alternatively Zillah is able to add info as she uploaded the photo.
Cheers from sunny Queensland.

Dear David,

I have read you email to Zillah and put your line on my tree, I would love the female names if possible, as you have only told us the male side.

I've justa dded your grave photo into the photos section so more people might see it there. When you answer me or anyone we have all learnt the hard way to go to the page belonging to that other person rather than answer on your own page. If you go to their page they get an email to say it is there -- otherwise not. -- takes some getting used to this site ---but it's a worthwhile one.

Thanks so much Daniel. I was not expecting to see your answer here so went back to the main page discussion and told everyone to come see your answer on your own page. I will have to re read what you have said and let all that sink in. Did you go to my webpage yet?It may disappear for a few days this week or so as we are changing servers but sure will be back. www.henrykable.com-- the name changes are interesting eh?
best wishes and keep up the digging your end,
There is a photo of the plaque outside the old gaol at Thetford where Henry was for a short time in our photos section-- go look at all those too if you have not yet-- quite a mixed bunch.
more to come I'm sure,
Zillah -- love your photo too.

Hi Zillah, Glad to find you lost for words. However, no more than I was last Friday when by chance stumbling upon some information that I had been searching years for. I came across someone else on the web who had built part of my missing tree. Whilst coming to terms with the idea that one of my ancestors was hung in the 18th.century, image my surprise when discovering that his son had such notoriety too, and was almost a cult figure. So I find that not only was he responsible for the first civil law suit down under, a succesful entrepreneur (in my blood too !), but has an opera based on his life, and a large family and following in Australia that still keep his name alive, complete with books, which I hope to read as time advances.
I was born in East London in 1944. My father Arthur Keeble b.3/4/1908 in Stratford.East London. Grandfather Arthur Keeble b.12/6/1883 b.Stratford. GGrandfather Arthur Keeble b.18/4/1860 Colchester.Essex.(Lot of Arthurs-I have a brother Arthur too). GGGrandfather David Keble 2/2/1819. Harwich/Dovercourt.Essex. GGGGrandfather James Keable b.30/1/1780 Laxfield.Suffolk. From Colchester to Laxfield is about 40 miles (I live about 25 miles from Colchester). So it would appear from census records the family being mostly agricultural labourers in Essex and just over the border into Suffolk, moved to East London when mechanisation arrived on the farms and work disappeared.

My line goes back to Henry Kable's brother James Ch.30/1/1780 in Laxfield.Suffolk. I have details of Henry Kable's father who was hanged 5/4/1783. (There is a good report of the court appearance and report of the hanging in the Norfolk Chronicle on the web too.)

I also have info of the grandfather James Keable b.1705 m.1724 Elizabeth Rudd, and the Great Grandfather James Keable d.1728 m.1699 Frances Watling. But I only have the names of their parents: William Keable m.Frances Marshland (I'm not sure how reliable this is though).

Zillah, this has been an exciting few days for me, and I'm glad I've come across some of my extended family across the waves. I'd love to gove back further than the 17th.century if anyone has done the research. If not the search goes on.

If there are any questions, bits of info etc. I can pass on, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sorry for the length of this response, but initially there is so much to say. Incidentally, Ann and I used to spend at least one day a month venturing into Suffolk, before she developed MS, and we've been to Norwich castle at least twice, and have probably seen Henry's effigy without realising the link

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Dan

PS A pix is attached of the grave a Keable in a Suffolk churchyard. Haven't found the link yet, but will keep you posted if I do.
