Thought I would introduce myself to the "Mob" since I am new.
My family lines comes through (obv. Henry & Susannah)
George & Susannah Kable (nee Jones)
Emma Kable who married Thomas James Murphy
Susannah Mary Murphy who married James Dover
Emily Adeline Dover who married George Douglas Platt
and my parents : John Edward Platt who married Sandra Lorraine Bennett
then I married Andrew Phippen.
I have only just started on the Kable line and have found a wealth of information thank you to you all.
I am yet to order the certificate for George & Susannah's marriage but have noticed on few websites that his middle name was Estos/Esto. ?
Does anyone know where this middle name might originate from ?
Hi Jay
Yes I did read that thread.
My aunty told me recently that she remembers as a child her G Grandmother (Susannah Murphy) telling her about a grandmother who use to shout out to the children as they walked past in spanish... Now she can not remember if it was Susannah's grandmother or her husbands grandmother (James Dover). But she remembers clearly that there was a definate difference in what the children looked like, some had fair skin and red hair and some were dark featured (which has travelled down through my line, as many people ask my brothers and I if we are european due to our olive skin, brown eyes and brown hair). So seeing the name Esto was interesting.
George Esto's father, Henry had a friend Prosper DE Mestre who was born just outside Venice in Italy near the town of ESTO. It is thought that Henry named George ESTO as a token of this friendship, the name PROSPER is also used as a Christen name for later members of the Kable family.
It's so fascinating about the names isn't it! I went to Italy and to the area Neil is talking about some years ago.
Emma Murphy lived at Moorilda,Teapot Swamp 55 years before she lived at Lyndhurst followed by Barry where she died at the residence of her son John. Emma was born at Gorman's Hill Bathurst ( see photos of the house in it's present glory these days in the photo section.) I have part of her death notice here beside me now and it says she is bured in Lyndhurst cemetary ( I have visited that grave) Father O'Keefe officiating at the graveside.
Hi Karen,
I am the great granddaughter of John Murphy, son of Emma Kable & Thomas James Murphy and brother of Susannah Murphy. I believe you are the first person I have found with a Murphy connection. My mum is the last to have the name Murphy in our line. I look forward to hearing more about your line.
