Brief History
Henry and Susannah both came to Australia as convicts on the First Fleet, arriving on 26th January 1788. They had met in prison in Norwich in England and had a child. The captain of the ship that Susannah was due to leave on refused to let the baby come on board because there were no papers for him. After a campaign started by the turnkey, John Simpson, who escorted the women to the ship Susannah was allowed to take her son with her and they were given money and goods to help them settle here. This was stolen from the ship and so Henry sued the ships captain, the first civil law suit in the colony, and won. Henry and Susannah were married in the first group marriage ceremony of white people on 10 Feb 1788. They settled here and we are some of their descendants.

I've decided I can't add any more of the newspaper articles in here - there's just too many! I've only added up to 1805 here but on the NLA Australian Newspapers database I've cleaned articles up to half way through 1807 and that's only a fraction of what is available. So, instead, here is the link to the front page of the database: http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home and there is a search box where you can type in Kable (or anything else you're interested in). A lot of them are quite hard to read because they haven't been cleaned up yet. Anything up to July 1807 should be ok. I'm continuing to work on any article that mentions Henry and his family, in date order, but it is a long project, especially as I make a point of cleaning up the whole article, not just the section of it mentioning Kable.
Seeing the amount of time Henry and Co. are mentioned really puts into perspective just how much they were an integral part of the colony. A lot of the pieces are simple ads asking for seamen for various jobs but this shows just how many people they were employing. The colony would have been a very different place without our ancestors.
I will continue to add other articles when I find them and if anyone has a new reference you can send it to me.

Seeing the amount of time Henry and Co. are mentioned really puts into perspective just how much they were an integral part of the colony. A lot of the pieces are simple ads asking for seamen for various jobs but this shows just how many people they were employing. The colony would have been a very different place without our ancestors.
